Cayman Islands Adventure Guide
Published in Digital by Hunter Publishing ()
Authors: Paris Permenter and John Bigley
Average review score:

Very Good For The Cayman Traveler
We downloaded this book and took it with us on our laptop. The authors cover each part of the island individually. There are maps, recommendations for lodging, eating, diving and snorkeling. They give you a broad overview of what to expect on your trip, what to take with you, reference materials for doctors and banking, etc. Basically, everything you need to know. Combine this with the weekly entertainment magazines available on the islands and you'll know more than some locals.

Cayman Islands Business Laws
Published in Paperback by International Law and Taxation Publishers (April, 2000)
Author: Adam Starchild
Average review score:

Very helpful solid information
It was very useful to finally have access to the current Cayman company and trust legislation. There are lots of summaries of the law available, but the full text of the actual statutes has not been generally available until this book. Now a tax planner can make his own decisions as to what is the best structure, and what legal options exist, and then ask a Cayman firm to implement the decision, instead of relying on high-priced advice from local firms, who often don't convey all of the details that a tax planner prefers to read for himself.

Certain Island
Published in Hardcover by M Evans & Co (June, 1971)
Author: Robert Murphy
Average review score:

Calling all birdwatchers and naturalists...
Novel of a time gone past, your grandfather's youth. No thanks to the Congressional liberals of the last 40 years, this time can never occur again. A young man's climb from innocence to seriousness about his career, including unsurpassed descriptions of bird watching and mounting. A naturalists delight, and now unfortunately stricken from "modern shelves" and replaced by one parent travails, homosexuality, political correctness, and other sickening liberal garbage.

The Chaffey Dynasty of Indian Island, NB
Published in Library Binding by Dorothy P Schneider (18 August, 2000)
Author: Dorothy P Schneider
Average review score:

Chaffeys and New Brunswick Canada- early history
The Chaffey Dynasty of Indian Island, New Brunswick Canada, takes a fascinating glimpse into the history of one of the earliest families in this area. With pains-taking effort the author has collected historical documentation, photos and amusing anecdotes about the Chaffey family and the other families who were the first settlers of this beautiful coastal Canadian area. The book does not read like a dry reference source. The author has done a service to a small island that made a historical contribution to this region. How fortunate she must feel to be a summer resident of this island that was at one time so vibrant. The bustling of a shipping/ trading era has gone but the beauty apparently remains.

The Chalet School and The Island
Your review should focus on the book's content and context. The best reviews include not only whether you liked or disliked a book, but also why. Feel free to mention related items and how this book rates in comparison to them.

I like this book. This book is funfilled and interesting. Chalet School fans would enjoy reading about the trials and tribulations of Gay Lambert and her freinds. This book also introduces Annis Lovell and her difficult relationship with her guardian. I think the plot of this book is good especially for its flow and also its ability to capture and develop characters of different group of individuals in earlier books. It also manages to capture the scenes without having the reader having to read previous book to know who is who. i feel that this boook should be in the 10+ age group mainly because they will develop the individuals mind and character

Great book for the doctor's office
This is a great book to take along when you will have to wait. By the time you read the book and find various things hinted at, the time has gone. This book also encourages listening skills.

As a special treat, you could always bring along a piece of chocolate for when you finish the book.

CliffsNotes Treasure Island and Kidnapped
Published in Digital by Hungry Minds ()
Authors: M. a. Gary Carey, G. K. Carey, and O. L. Mishk
Average review score:

Good Books
I thought these two books to be excellent. Treasure Island was a book that I wasn't quite sure that I would enjoy, but as I read further into it, I began to crave for more of R. L. Stevenson's works. So I decided to read Kidnapped. I'm part-way through it now. But I never expected them both to take place on boats. Well I new that Treasure Island's setting was mostly on a boat, but the way kidnapped began I never thought it would turn up to be another nautical novel!

Coconut Kind of Day: Island Poems
Published in Library Binding by William Morrow (August, 1990)
Authors: Lynn Joseph and Sandra Speidel
Average review score:

Coconut Kind of Day
In language rich with Caribbean tones and sounds, Lynn Joseph casts her fishing net and pulls a school of readers in with the tide, giving "boys and girls who aren't familiar with the Caribbean a glimpse into another child's world." A woman of the island herself, Joseph writes the poems from the perspective of a young Trinidad girl. Beginning with "Morning Songs," the poems flow naturally across the pages as a Caribbean day unfolds. Before day's end, the girl is greeted by the "ebony man selling mangoes and papaws in the street," has school escapades, and sees "Mama gone to market with the figs upon her head." The pleasures and secrets of the island are revealed throughout, as in "The Palet Man" (Caribbean ice-cream man), and "Steel Drum," which beckons readers to hear the drum's "pom da de de de dom pom." Text-enhancing, full-page illustrations, bursting with Caribbean life, leave lingering images behind. Glorious colors depict everything from the multi-hued blue water where Brother swims "till he touch high heaven on a wave," to the all too real "Jumbi Man" (Caribbean boogie-man) with his "monkey face." Joseph craftily uses metaphors to construct new images from the familiar. In "Pullin' Seine," the evening ritual of fishermen pulling nets in from the sea, Joseph skillfully places the text, creating an image of the net's heaving and hawing, as fishermen begin, struggle, and successfully pull their net in. While the book is an excellent read-aloud for all ages, the text's level of difficulty along with the unfamiliar Caribbean words make it an appropriate independent-read for children ages eight and older.
